The Simple Woman’s Daybook for April 13, 2015

For Today… April 13, 2015
Outside my window… the sun is rising, the birds are singing, spring is springing. We have one lonely daffodil blooming.
I am thinking… about the conference this weekend and the amazing things I learned and the wonderful people I met.
I am thankful… that my husband affords me the time to attend. That my parents kept the children for two days. That I met and listened to some wonderful educators who stretch and encourage me.
I am wearing… jammies and my Outer Banks hoodie. I just got up; slowly.
I am creating… blog posts in my mind with titles like “The Artistry of Academics.” Maybe they’ll even get posted.
I am going… to clean and haircuts and grocery shop and homework and swap seasonal clothing and soccer this week. It’s going to be a whirlwind as it is our sabbath week off.
I am wondering… how soon baseball schedules will be coming. Our soccer schedule is insane already.

I am hoping… to get my homework done before the meeting tonight!
I am learning… about how teaching is an art and learning is an art and we learn different arts and applying arts is how we learn subjects. It’s all a beautiful dance.
In my garden… I have one lonely daffodil. I’m a terrible gardener.
In my kitchen… I need to start thinking through “after sports” meals. Crockpot, grilling, not hot meals. Things that can be reheated easily. It is a challenging time for cooking.
In the homeschool… It’s a break week. We may do some catch-up reading, because our second six weeks didn’t go nearly as well as the first six weeks. But sickness and dental work conspired against us.
A favorite quote for today… This is hard; I published so many good ones on Twitter this past weekend. Probably the one I keep considering is from Dr. Christopher Perrin:
“Arts are not subjects. Arts enable you to master subjects.” @CAPerrin #GHC2015

A peek into one of my days… I wouldn’t ever put that brown and pink belt with this outfit, but I think she looked great. She’s always had a great eye for putting together crazy things and looking lovely.

One of my favorite things… I love Cheetos. Don’t tell anybody. I took some to convention, but won’t have any for a long time. But boy do I love them.
From the board room… I’ve been saving all sorts of Charlotte Mason links: philosophy, ideas, organization, etc. to my “Changing Horses Midstream” board. As we’ve been making the move from WTM neoclassicism to CM Classicism, I’ve needed all the help I can get:
Post Script Lizzie at StrongHaven posted a challenge for our mornings – for starting the day well. I forgot this morning, but I’m going to try to establish a similar habit. You should check it out.

GREAT quote!!! I've gotta hear these talks by Perrin & Sarah!
It was great. They're so good!
What a cutie your daughter is!! She is rocking that outfit!! I like Cheetos too!! Have a great week!!
Thanks! She is definitely her own person!
What a big undertaking to change the way you home school ! But isn't that the beauty of it ?! We learn as they learn . And we learn them and how best to help them . I loved homeschooling ! (I worked myself out of a job! LOL , they all graduated) Cheetos are the epitome of junk food …tasty junk food ! And it is a treat! We all need a treat now and again. 🙂 It's the 80/20 rule . We have to teach balance too. 🙂 Blessings!
It has been a big change, but so good. Thanks for the encouragement!
