Circle Time Monday for January 28, 2013

Memory Work for the week of … : January 28, 2013

Bible: We continue to work on Philippians 2:1-18.  We’re adding the verse(s?):

“Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Catechism/Creed:  M-girl continues to review four pages a day from this format.  N-boy is beginning the section on the sacraments.  R-girl is working on the third and fourth commandments.

Hymn: January is review month.  We don’t try to add a new hymn, but cycle through all the old ones we’ve learned.

Covenantal Catechism: Year 2 Lesson 3.  New memory verse Genesis 2:7.

Poetry:  Everyone is working on “Jabberwocky” by Lewis Carroll.  R-girl is also working on “Some One” by Walter de la Mare.  She’s working hard to catch up.  I’m encouraging this.

Counting: 8s.  M-girl started multiplication and is starting to see the purpose in this.

History: we’re starting over memorizing Veritas Press cards.  The children seem to like this change.  We’re only to Hagar and Ishmael adding one card per day.

Science: They’ve memorized the planets, “O Lady Moon” by Christina Rosetti, and the phases of the moon.

Geography: We’re working on the West Indies Geography Song.

Latin: We’re reviewing songs from Song School Latin.  This week will be the Manners Song, Animal Songs, and Action Songs.  Next week will be something new!

Reading: We continue to read from Opal Wheeler’s The Story of Peter Ilych Tchaikovsky a couple pages a day.  We’re also reading from Parables from Nature this week: Motes in the Sunbeam.

  1. Why VP history cards? we're doing the same. Only titles in order right now. (For their Bble cards, we're doing title, reference & date.) I've SERIOUSLE considered CC history cards. Don't own them (& that's the only thing holding me back!) but we do use their science cards & they are amazing!

  2. I thought I answered this the other day. I'm using the VP cards because I bought them used cheap from CC families who had to buy the new ones 😉

I probably would've bought the CC cards at convention last year if I could've gotten some help with any speed. We use Living Memory for our science memory at the moment.
