I enjoyed learning about Alfred the Great in this book. His work to free his country from the attack of the Danish Vikings and to reestablish a Christian, educated populace were well described in this book. His law-giving and the careful thought that went into it were explained well.
The writing in the beginning seemed lyrical and slowly became more mundane, but tidy and readable.
The author is writing from a decidedly Christian perspective about a Christian king and it shows. I enjoyed that.
