We’ve actually seen three movies in the past couple of weeks – one that was even still in theaters! (How exciting!)
We went to the theater to see Die Another Day. Both Jason and I are James Bond fans and really wanted to see this movie. It might be one of my favorites: it was a bit darker than Bond usually is, the villains were somewhat (it is a Bond film, afterall) believable, and it drew from modern films in its production. I liked Halle Berry’s character, Jinx. All in all, I enjoyed it.
My step-brother lent us one of his copies of The Fellowship of the Ring which we had yet to see. I was slightly disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, it was beautifully done, music, special effects, the colors, everything. The plot was good. I just never really felt drawn into the movie. Now, there may be some other factors working here: I never managed to finish the books, so I had a hard time knowing what was going on in places (or when they named a place, I didn’t know what they were talking about); we watched on DVD, at home, and could pause the film for breaks which in a 3 hour film we did … this probably broke up the continuity; we watched it for the first time a year after it came out and the hype has been huge for a year, could we help but be a tough crowd?. I do want to see The Two Towers, and have borrowed my step-brother’s all-in-one hardback volume of the books, so I’m hoping to work my way through these problems.
Finally, we rented Men in Black II on DVD. It was cute, nothing too exciting. A lot of the same jokes as in the first movie. I’m not sorry I watched it, but there isn’t really much more to say.
