We’re studying 1 John right now at Bible Study and really digging into confession and what it is and means in our lives and in our relationships with Christ. They say confession is good for the soul, but it seems to be so much more. One of the passages we linked to was in James 4:7-10. First it talks about submitting to God and out of that submission resisting the devil and he will flee from you. But then it goes on to discuss mourning, weeping, and humbling ourselves about our sin.

We all sin. Romans tells us that – we’re all separate from God and there’s nothing we can do about it. But God can and has. We still build barriers of sin between us and Him that seem to pull us far away from Him, but He tells us that He has demolished those barriers and our confession helps us to see that big, gaping open spot in the wall that wasn’t there a minute ago.

There are things in my life that I’ve confessed before God, and continued to practice. Maybe, confessing before God *and* my brothers and sisters in Christ will help to stop repeating sin – it wasn’t easy, but I think human accountability may help.
