Weekly Report for September 5-7, 2012
Aside from a yucky cold we had a great week of lessons. We planned on having Tuesday off, but the children and I all got colds so couldn’t go visit a 2 week old 🙁 So we did lessons – the children didn’t think this was a good trade, but better than having to stay in bed all day. Anyway, we had wonderful Circle Times, good individual lessons, and good content lessons. Soccer started too, so we had at least one team meeting or practice every day but Monday. Keeps me on my toes.
Phonics:
R-girl: R-girl finished the section on r-controlled vowels yesterday. She worked to finish 8 lessons in 3 days. She started multi-syllable words today and powered through two lessons of compound words. We clapped out syllables of family names to introduce the concept.
Assigned Reading:
M-girl: read some more of On the Banks of Plum Creek, maybe only two chapters?
N-boy: read four chapters of Farmer Boy. He still claims to dislike it, but none of us believe him.
R-girl: read three chapters of Little House in the Big Woods. She read the Sugar Snow today, I like that chapter.
Math:
M-girl: She finished lesson 50 of Year 2A today. The next section begins adding two-digit numbers greater than the next 10. She hasn’t done a lot of regrouping yet, other than adding up to 20, but I don’t expect her to have any difficulties with this at all. She’s also working with Roman Numerals like a champion.
N-boy: He is working on the early measurement sections in Y2.
R-girl: Is working on adding up to 10s. Teaching this the third time, I’m loving how this is put together. She’s having no problems working on this section.
Logic:
M-girl: completed several logic pages.
N-boy: he did a bunch of pages. The pattern and image pages are his favorites. The Venn Diagrams are difficult. The wording sometimes trips him up.
R-girl: is still working through Lollipop Logic. She thinks it is fun.
Grammar:
M-girl: worked on diagramming complete proper names and verbs with helping verbs.
N-boy: is memorizing prepositions …
R-girl: is working on nouns that are ideas.
Writing:
M-girl: is working on the Jungle Book lessons.
N-boy: is working on the Tom Sawyer lessons.
Spelling:
M-girl: didn’t miss any on her first two spelling lists in Level E.
N-boy: missed two words this week: except and finished.
Latin:
M-girl: is still working on Chapter 4. She needs to finish her flash cards first.
N-boy: can count to 10 in Latin.
Penmanship:
M-girl: learned G and S today.
N-boy: is working on X.
R-girl: is working on b.
History: We read about the establishment of the Japanese dynasty and the intermingling between China, Korea, and Japan.
Science: We read about the horizon and asteroids.
Geography: Today we started reading about seismic activity, earthquakes, and figuring out the inside makeup of the Earth.
Art:no art other than piano this week.
Read Alouds: I don’t think we’ve read much of any Pinocchio this week. We have been reading Archimedes and the Door of Science. We’re all enjoying it. We also read The Law of the Wood from Parables of Nature.
Bible: We finished our discussion for Lesson 1 of Covenantal Catechism Year 2. We worked more on memorizing 2 Corinthians 2:1. The kids worked hard on their hymns and catechism this week. I don’t know if we read any from The Mighty Acts of God with Jason or not. Maybe just one day?
We studied the earth's insides this week too 🙂 Looks like you had a very productive week.
