Weekly Report for August 19-23, 2013

We had challenges this week; I don’t think I have a single school picture. One of the students, in particular, had a hard time doing their work. I was so thankful for Brandy’s Tuesday post “On Inconveniences in Homeschooling: Meltdowns and Other Messes” If you haven’t read it yet, stop reading my post and go read Brandy’s. I’ll wait. It’s genius. Exactly what I need to read EVERY DAY. Frankly, if you’re not reading Afterthoughts, you’re missing out.

Seriously, did you read it?

OK, Monday we had a pretty thorough day, Circle Time mostly complete, lessons accomplished, if grudgingly. We read from Renaissance People, which is a good book to get a feel for the different classes and their lifestyles during the period. Each child chose one “people” to read about.

Tuesday we had tickets to the Columbus Clippers game. For Circle Time, we did reading quickly at home and most of our audio/recitation stuff in the car. That worked pretty well.

Wednesday, we prayed and read The Voices of the World from Parables From Nature for Circle Time. We rescheduled our Piano lessons to earlier in the morning (9:30-11:00) for the coming school year. We worked our lessons around the rest of it. We set up the replacement printer after our old one died. Hooray!

Because I had a new printer, on Thursday R-girl got to start MEP Year 2! She finished Year 1 last week (we only did a day of lessons last week, so I didn’t do a report):

I started revising our schedule. With piano lessons moving and other activities starting, I wanted to rework our assignments and how we went through our days. I think I’ve come up with a great schedule. It should work well as long as all the wheels are running smoothly. Today we had a 2/3 good day. Two kiddos worked through their lessons, math, Latin, and grammar. One refused. We’ll try again tomorrow. At lunch we read through 4 places in Renaissance Places. I really liked these two books for their non specificity.

I redid our assignment sheets and completed our schedule changes, one big change is that we’ll be on a two-week rotation. Week A we’ll do History three days and read Science for assigned reading. Week B we’ll do Science three days and read History for assigned reading. The kids looked at it too and thought it would work. It will take a lot of work to stay on schedule. We will see.
