Weekly Report: 7/12/10-7/16/10

We had some rough patches this week, but generally things are going well. Now if only I could figure out how to keep up with the laundry too! And we’re only doing 3 day weeks [sigh]

Memory Work:

Bible: moving along nicely with this, we added the next verse.

Catechism/Creed: Same questions as last week, and we’ll do the same questions next … No, N-boy, a change of hear is *not* original sin [sigh]

Hymn: Added the second verse of “Eternal Father, Strong to Save.”  The Simply Charlotte Mason memory system is great in that we’re constantly reviewing, so what doesn’t get memorized this month gets better and better each month going forward.

Manner: “How are you to obey?” Quickly, quietly, cheerfully, completely. 

Poetry: Still on Jonathan Bing and Jonathan Blake.  I think one more week on Jonathan Bing.

Counting: We’re counting odd numbers in July.

Other Memory Work:  They’re doing the Pledge of Allegiance.  They’ve learned it from the Wee Sing America CD, so they always start singing, “Three Cheers for the Red, White, and Blue! …”

Phonics:

M-girl: We’ve decided to skip to where she has problems which is multi-syllable words. 

N-boy: Chugging along.  I hope the prize of filling in a dot will encourage greater work.

R-girl: She finished ETC A’s first lesson – “Ff”!

Math:

M-girl: We love MEP!  M-girl asked for a second lesson a couple of days this week.  She’s finished “3s” and is up to “4s”  MEP does it a little differently, we only add numbers we’ve worked with before to get as high as the number we’re studying.  For example, we’ll add 1+2 when studying 3, but not 1+3.  This seems strange, but is working well.

N-boy: MEP is working well for N-boy, too.  He likes the activities in the lesson plan book, like tossing a ball back and forth and saying the opposite of the word I said (e.g. I say tall and throw the ball, he says short and throws it back).

R-girl:  R-girl did puzzles and read number books.

Grammar:

M-girl: We worked on learning what her initials are and how to write them.  I read a poem that had many verbs in it … and she acted out the verbs.

Art:  M-girl made a footprint butterfly with my mom yesterday.

Bible:  We read about Isaac, Esau, Jacob, and Rachel in the Vos Story Bible.  We’re also reading the Jesus Storybook Bible with Jason.

Read-aloud: We only have four chapters left in Five Little Peppers and How They Grew! (Hoorah!)
