Wednesdays with Words: All My Own Secrets
I read a free-for Kindle book, Susanna and the Spy by Anna Elliot, and decided to try the sequel, London Calling. In the story, Susanna calls upon her Aunt Ruth to help her move the plot along reside in London and find her friend, James.
Aunt Ruth, who conveniently knows everyone necessary and can afford to rent a house in London, first explains the situation to her husband, but soothes Susanna that she hasn’t spilled her reasons to go to London:
All my own secrets are shared with my husband, my dear, but those of my friends — those I keep private.
I don’t know what I think about this. I don’t tell Jason everything I am told by this friend or that, but at the same time – if it is a big deal – I always make certain that they understand that he is in the mix.
What do you think? Do you agree with Aunt Ruth or do you find problems with her statement? I’ll admit to being troubled – I like it, but I don’t.

In answer to your question about secrets, it depends. Helpful, right? Not having read the book it looks like the character handled it pretty much the way I would have. You have to know your own husband and his relationship with your friend and how stressed he is about other stuff and how inclined he is to accidentally let on that he has a secret and how embarrassing it would be to your friend for him to know and lots of other things.
I agree, Kelly. I think it's only safe to say that it depends entirely on each specific situation.
I share some things that are important or need prayer, but otherwise, things between friends usually stay that.
