This past Saturday evening, Jason and I went to the third concert in our CSO package. This concert was Garrick Ohlsson plays Brahms The first part was the CSO alone playing Respighi’s Sinfonia Drammatica. Honestly, I thought it was really long and the first movement was very boring. It was so long that after the second movement someone applauded (in their defense there had been a short, silent break where the musicians turned pages) and Siciliani turned and said, “I hope you’re clapping because you like the sinfonia, not because you thought it was done!”

After the intermission, Mr. Ohlsson took the stage and played the Brahms Concerto No. 1 in D Minor for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 15. Wow. He was truly impressive to watch and listen to. The second movement seemed to be a bit long, but overall I enjoyed this. He also played a Chopin piece by himself as an encore. It was wonderful.

Notes for further references on the concert.
