The Simple Woman’s Daybook for September 10, 2012

FOR TODAY

Outside my *OPEN* window… It’s beautiful, a bit chilly (need sweatshirts in the house) and smells like fall.  There’s a brilliant sun and blue sky.  Perfect.

I am thinking…
about the true truth of God’s Word. So thankful that Jesus prayed that his people be sanctified through it.

I am thankful…
a fun day with Jason’s extended family yesterday.

In the kitchen…
Shredded Chicken tortillas for dinner.

I am wearing…
jeans, coral blouse, OBX hoodie.

I am creating… still in the thinking through stage.

I am going… to visit my sister!

I am wondering… when my children will be finished with breakfast.

I am reading… getting closer with Moonwalking with Einstein. It’s good, I’m enjoying it and learning from it, but it never seems like I get very far. I have about 100 pages left.

I am hoping… to finish Moonwalking with Einstein sooner rather than later.

I am looking forward to… the Women’s Retreat next weekend.

I am learning… about memory and its opposites.  Fascinating stuff.

Around the house… we’re in pretty good shape.  I did all the laundry and ironing on Saturday.  Yay, me!

I am pondering… education and our schedule.

A favorite quote for today… “… memory training was considered a form of character building, a way of developing the cardinal virtue of prudence and, by extension, ethics.  Only through memorizing, the thinking went , could ideas truly be incorporated into one’s psyche and their values absorbed.  The techniques existed not just to memorize useless information like decks of playing cards, but also to etch into the brain foundational texts and ideas.” Joshua Foer in Moonwalking with Einstein pg 10

One of my favorite things… all the memory work my children do.  I was convinced of its importance before, but I love what this book is teaching me about it, too.

A few plans for the rest of the week…
soccer.

A peek into my day…

M-girl got to play goalie for a while in her first game with goalies.  She made two stops!
