The Simple Woman’s Daybook for June 6, 2016

For Today… Monday, June 6, 2016 … 71 years after the Beaches of Normandy were stormed to free Europe from opression. Thankful for those who did that work.

Looking out my window … it’s getting dark but it was a glorious sunrise

I am thinking … about Truth, Goodness, and especially Goodness because I’m listening to the sixth episode of the Center for Lit podcast: Bibliofiles – Should Art be Beautiful?

I am thankful … that such excellent conversations are intellectually challenging, available, and free.

One of my favorite things … VBS week. So thankful for the work of those in my church who have planned and organized and decorated or months..

I am wearing … shorts (finally) and a pink blouse.

I am creating … calendar entries for baseball games. Phew.

I am readingTo Kill a Mockingbird which is wonderful.

I am hoping … to get a very long list of things done this week alongside VBS.

I am learningto get up at 6am. I’m joining the #ctlwakeupchallenge on Instagram. I might’ve mentioned before that “dawn” is a terrible misnomer? Thought so.

In my kitchen … it’s baseball season again, so I’m #survivingsportsseasonssanely with Crowded Sandwich.

In the school room … we’re heading to VBS daily.

In my garden … peonies. Love.

Post Script … my friend Ana Willis is hosting a blog party daily in June – 30 Ways We Homeschool. Not only the blog party, where 30 different people (including me later in the month) are posting about our homeschools each day of the month. Not only are these invaluable homeschool posts there for encouragement and ideas, but Ana has put together a huge giveaway of many different resources. I don’t do giveaways here at ladydusk, but you can find out more here.

A moment from my day … we had a great trip to Corolla in the Outer Banks last week

  1. Hi, I am visiting from the Simple Woman's Daybook. Your peonies are absolutely stunning. They are easily my favorite flower. A couple weeks ago, a gal at our local farmers' market was selling them for $1 a stem. I bought a dozen, in pink white, and red.

Oh, To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my faves too. Also, one of my favorite movies. If you've not seen the film, I high recommend it. Gregory Peck won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Atticus Finch.

I am a retired homeschool mom, having graduated my last in 2010. They were joy-filled years, and I miss them very much. It's such a privilege to teach our children, isn't it?

    Blessings,
