So, Margaret (sharing a birthday with both Paulo and Wendy) turned 2 on Friday. I can’t believe what a big girl she is!

She talks, not only in sentences, but in mostly understandable paragraphs. She loves books and being by Mommy. She loves her Daddy, and really enjoys spending time with him. She’s got a bit of his sense of humor (those who know him, groan here). She knows (with a bit of prompting) the first 13 answers to the “Catechism for Young Children.” She recognizes most of the letters and numbers and can count to about 14 and sing the alphabet. She loves to sing in the car, current favorites include “Jesus Loves Me”, “My God is so Big”, and the Ohio State fight song, The Buckeye Battle Cry (“Dive, dive on down field …”). She can start the “OH-IO” and sort of do the hand motions. “Football, Tackle, Tackle.” Margaret, like her mother, is very distractable and willing to give up when something doesn’t come easily. We’re working on that.

Not to ignore Nate, he’s becoming a lot of fun. He crawls really well. He laughs, especially at pretty physical play. He probably plays with toys better than Margaret does already. He loves being in public and seeing new people. He loves football. We took the kids to a high school game early in September, and he laughed, and jumped and had a great time. He is very determined, single-minded, and intense. In a 9 month old, these qualities can be frustrating, but I keep telling myself that in a few years I will really appreciate these traits.

Yesterday, we had a funeral to go to. It was for Jason’s great-aunt (and the grandmother of my friend Michelle who comments here). It was a really nice funeral as Aunt Regina lived a long and faithful life. Anyway, the funderal was in Dayton, Ohio, so on our way home we took the children to see the airplanes at the National Museum of the USAF at the Wright Patterson AFB. During WWII, my grandfather trained Naval pilots to fly Corsairs, below is a pic of us in front of a plane that may have been the AF plane similar. At least the docent thought so, Jason isn’t so sure. Anyway, we had a great time. Margaret liked all the ai-pwanes.

In September, we all went to the Columbus Fire Museum with the homeschool group from church. There was a lot of talk about fire safety (most of which went over Meg’s head), but there were also a lot of cool historical fire engines, and a place where children could play in the cut-off cab of a real fire engine. Here’s a picture of the four of us together from that day too …

  1. Wow, I can’t believe she’s only 2. She looks so much older. She’s so cute, too. Like she belongs in a gerber commercial or something.

I don’t usually tell people that sort of stuff about their kids, so realize that that’s quite a compliment.

  2. //…and the Ohio State fight song…//

I’ve notified child services. It’s a clear cut case of child abuse 😉

  3. Enjoyed the pics! Margret can do so much- it makes me want to go and do school with Matthias. 🙂 It can be depressing at times but we still enjoy you all!

    Happy Birthday Margret!

PS- Nate, you are getting HUGE!

  4. Meg reminds me of Hope when she was two. Not only in appearance but in personality and brains. She is a blessing to you now I know, but just wait until she is eight! It get’s even better, though I miss when mine were so small.

  5. Hey! I didn’t realize there was a CO Fire Museum. is it new? maybe we can take the boys there when we’re in town in November. do you know anything about hours and admission fees? I couldn’t find anything about it on their website.
and COD, are you crazy? knowing The Buckeye Battle Cry already may be a sign of a child prodigy 😉
