The Simple Woman’s Daybook for February 20, 2012
FOR TODAY
Outside my window… is sunny and cold.
I am thinking… about yesterday’s sermon. It was fantastic!
I am thankful… for a pastor who is so serious about preaching God’s Word.
In the kitchen… I haven’t cooked for a few days.
I am wearing… jeans and a pink sweater.
I am creating… a pile of ironing … Jason needs it ironed.
I am going… went … to see Arrietty this morning with the chidlren. It was wonderful and we had a great time.
I am wondering… if the Advil I took is going to kick in still.
I am reading… haven’t started anything new since Evening in the Palace of Reason.
I am hoping… to read something else I like that much.
I am looking forward to… grocery store with Jason tonight.
I am learning… about the differences between Classical Prophets and the Apocolyptic Bible writers.
Around the house… let’s not go there right now.
I am pondering… reason, the Enlightenment, Baroque, education, kings and queens …
A favorite quote for today… “Once they had [new, foreign] music in hand, old or new, Walther and Bach
— like every other conscientious composer of their day — went about
studying it as they had been taught in school to study oratory, through
the threefold discipline of praeceptum, exemplum, and imitatio (learning
principles, studying examples, and imitating good execution). In just
this way, Bach and Walther studied the Italians: first by copying out
their works note for note, then by arranging them for various
instruments, finally by transfiguring them in works of their own.” pg

One of my favorite things… visiting with old friends. I got to meet my High School best friend’s children yesterday. The children loved playing with her 6 year old and I got to play with the 2 month old. Win-win!
A few plans for the rest of the week…school, cleaning, art!

That was my favorite quote from the batch you posted the other day. How different that is from today's world — any composer who did that today would be sued for copyright infringement.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the movie!
Can you come iron for me? Please?
