Phew. I took my sister-in-law out of her house for the evening to help me with my Christmas shopping (our shopping for her was already done and she needed a break from being cooped up in the house). We went to Trader Joe’s for the first time as it is new to Columbus. It was smaller than I expected, but certainly worth more visits. Then we went to City Barbecue for dinner. Yum. Then we got down to serious Christmas shopping. It went well, we’re about done.

On my way home, I was listening to the radio and heard this commentary about state-owned casinos. Its tragic enough that we offer a state lottery (“for the children”) that, as our pastor put it, is basically raping the poor, and that much worse that we’re considering adding Powerball. But, if states are beginning to profiteer off the addictions and poverty of people, it just shows how far American morality has fallen.

Which reminds me of *another* story I heard today. Speculation is that the cowards threw a firebomb into the back of the house to scare the family out and then the teenage boy they were after was shot. In Columbus. Scary stuff.

Oh, and look at this. At the local NPR site, the “News” link opens to “News for the People: This Section is Currently Classified.”

And it is now way past my bedtime, so I’ll say good night.
