One of the girls from church (hmmm … “girls” might not be the right term, she has two children, but is younger than I am, so, [shrug] oh well) lent me her copy of Let’s Roll: Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage, which is the Todd and Lisa Beamer story. I’m glad I read it. It wasn’t particularly well written (it wasn’t awful either, just repetetive in parts and stream-of-conscious writing), but it was very easy to read and approachable which I’m certain will reach the target audience. While the book was mostly matter-of-fact, I was moved to tears in several parts when she was describing the faith she and Todd had shared and how it gave her hope even through the tremendously difficult circumstances surrounding September 11, 2001 and the death of her husband. The book ended with the obligatory gospel message which I would’ve liked to have seen woven into the story as it unfolded and she mentioned, “and so-and-so shared the gospel …” rather than the big culmination at the end, but I understand why she wrote it this way. I would recommend this book to others, especially my non-Christian (or marginally-Christian, if that’s possible – non-antagonistic I guess) friends – or friends who are needing an encouragement that there is a bigger plan and that we have a hope for the future which is only in Jesus.
