On Saturday, one of my brothers, his girlfriend, Jason and I headed to Tiffin, Ohio to celebrate my Grandparent’s 60th anniversary (which was actually on Monday the 9th. We met the celebrants at The Pioneer Mill. The Pioneer Mill used to be the mill in town where grains were ground. As Todd (my brother) said, “In Columbus, they’d build something to try and look like this, here this is what it is.” The food was fine, and the views overlookin the Sandusky River were quite nice (even for Ohio in February!). After dinner (or lunch, really) we all went to my Uncle Chuck and Aunt Sharon’s home for cake and ice cream. They, like my grandparents are residents of the Old Fort, Ohio area … one of the small farming towns in Ohio that you’ll miss if you blink as you drive through.

We had a great time visiting with 2 of my 5 cousins, my grandfathers 4 sisters and 1 sister-in-law. Grandpa and the Great-Aunts all reminisced about stories from their growing up. One of the stories, of the two youngest girls being tied to the clothes line so they didn’t run out of the yard, was particularly funny. Oh, and of my (now deceased) Great-Uncle convincing one of the girls that a bottle of ammonia was a new perfume and to take a deep whiff of it. I was crying, I was laughing so hard.

Then, there was my grandpa who would get paid $0.50 for re-hooking a bridge that would sometimes get loose in floods … and un-hooking it for the opportunity to re-hook it …

It was a good trip.
