I picked up The History and Character of Calvinism when we went to Half-Price Books a couple of weeks ago and have gotten through several chapters. There is a lot of history that I don’t know and some strange inclusions in German (like I know German!), but so far it is an interesting read – and I’m only in the middle of reading about Zwingli. The one reviewer of this book on Amazon says that the author John T McNeil is not a Calvinist, but in the introduction he explains that his father suggested that he memorize the Shorter Catechism and that he studied what he believed. Does anyone know any more about him?
