Family Read Aloud Review: The Princess and the Goblin
Our most recent Family Read Aloud was The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald. We enjoyed this book very much! The adventures of Princess Irene and Curdie, the gentle interweaving of lessons they learned, the excellent writing give much to recommend it to even small children. The chapters being generally shorter made it easy to read even a second chapter in the evening if desired. M-girl was able to follow the story pretty easily, N-boy less so, and R-girl followed very little. I’m certain this will be one we read again in the coming years.
I purchased this from our library book sale. Our library still has a copy, but doesn’t have the Princess and Curdie, which is the sequel. Thankfully, my sister has a large library of children’s books and while she doesn’t have The Princess and the Goblin, she *does* have The Princess and Curdie. I’m excited to find out about the coming adventures of Irene and Curdie.
Next up, Five Little Peppers and How they Grew.
I read that book (and Little Britches) to my two youngest and my nieces the spring that Frank was dying. It was a wonderful escape!
Books become part of our lives, don't they?
