Circle Time Sept 3-6, 2013
Circle Time plans for the week of … :
Bible: We’re working on
Colossians 3:12-17.Catechism/Creed: R-girl is still working on the 6th and 7th Commandments. The others are reviewing through the catechism.
Hymn: We are working on the second verse of “Now Unto Jehovah, Ye Sons of the Mighty.” I had to use a YouTube video as our accompaniment.
Covenantal Catechism: We started Lesson 15 in Covenantal Catechism which is on the plagues in Egypt and the Exodus.
Poetry: This will be the last week on “The Height of the Ridiculous.” We started reading Poetry for Young People: William Blake this week. We always read the biographical part first, what an interesting character!
Counting: We’re working on skip counting by 12s!
History: This week we’re adding the cards about the Roman destruction of Jerusalem, Pompeii, and dividing the Roman Empire.
Science: We’re working on the weather cards. Then, we’ll be done with the Geology section. I’ll probably go back and add some from science studies we’ve already done.
Geography: We’re doing the Former USSR song this week. M-girl already knew it.
Latin: We’re going to review through all our songs in the next few weeks. Then we’ll start Song School II. This week is the first 4 songs. I hope.
Reading: Last week, we finished The Heavens: Intimate Moments with Your Majestic God. I really enjoyed it, the children liked the pictures, but I think we all learned from it. We’re going to replace it with Doorpost’s Put On Chart and book, good devotions that match with our memory work. We’re reading The Ugly Duckling in our book on manners. Athanasius is the current figure we’re reading about in Peril and Peace. We’re reading The Master of the Harvest as our Parable from Nature for this week.
Oh, I like Now Unto Jehovah! Our psalter has the same tune as cyberhymnal, but the words are the same as the video you linked. I'll add that one to my "future Circle Time additions" list. 🙂
This time around I forgot to check that my CDs' tunes with the same titles were the same as our hymnal. Oops. Trinity Hymnal and the Blue Psalter have several of the same titles and words but different tunes. 🙂
We sing this version kind of often, so I wanted to choose it to learn for school. We really, really like this version … the other tune doesn't sound right!
I forgot to check the CDs beforehand, this tune isn't on them. Boo! The YouTube video works OK. Does the chart in the cover show which tune is for which hymnal/psalter? We use the Trinity, so it works out well for me in general. I'm hoping the new Psalter Hymnal (maybe with your denomination?) that the OPC is working on will keep some of these tunes …
Do you have a link somewhere to your geography resources?
For Circle Time we use Kathy Troxel's Geography Songs.
The rest of our resources are probably under 2013 Academics but we're using Memoria Press' States & Capitals as our main thing right now. Everyone has completed Evan Moor's Beginning Geography K-2 book (which I adore as I never thought I'd love a workbook).
Hope that helps!
Thanks, Dawn.
