I liked this. I liked the story (not quite as well as Out of the Silent Planet, but so be it). It didn’t sustain my attention the whole time – maybe because from the beginning, I knew Ransom would return to Earth. 

I didn’t understand all of it. Some of the arguments and details seemed minute (although we know that big issues are made of small ones). 

What did I like then? I loved the descriptions. The lush imaginative descriptions of Lewis’ conception of Perelandra. The fruit and trees and water of Perelandra could almost be tasted. I loved the Queen and King. Perelandra and Malacandra were spectacular. The worship service was a glimpse into heaven.

My pastor preached on Sunday about Jesus as priest and showed how Adam was to be a priest in the Garden, serving and protecting from outside interference like that of the devil. I loved how this story tied into that idea. Ransom was sent to act as that intermediary in an Edenic land to crush the serpent’s head.
