Book Review: Parenting from the Heart by Marilyn Boyer

Parenting from the Heart by Marilyn Boyer was exactly the book I needed to read this week.

I don’t agree with everything she has to say (surprise). There are places where the editing is lax.

But, there was such a comfort reading her words. Enjoy your 3 year olds while they’re 3. Train them, but let them be 3. How to incorporate scripture. How to think about patriotism. Follow your convictions even when others question them. This book was down to earth and realistic. Interesting. I’m having trouble putting into words the sense of calm and comfort she was able to convey in this book. Definitely a worthwhile read!

  1. Do you want to switch books? I'll bring Instructing a Child's Heart for you, and you bring that for me? 🙂

  2. See if you can get your hands on "Homeschooling with a Meek and Quiet Spirit" by Terri Maxwell. I thought it was very good and reread it now and then. And of course, to balance the classical education reading "When You Rise Up" by RC Jr.

    Happy Reading!

  3. Maybe I'll ask Heather if I can borrow Meek & Quiet, I know she really enjoyed that one.

I have When you Rise Up, read it last year, and it was … OK. I had wanted to read it for years. There were some really good things, but I think his "this way is God's way is the only way" stance was a bit much. Maybe I'll appreciate it more later when I've been schooling a while. We'll see.

  4. I've wanted to read this one for some time- could I borrow it in April? (I'll bring your Elizabeth Prentiss book back.) And, yes, if you remind me I can bring "Meek & Quiet Spirit" in April. I read this book once a year.

My ALL time favorite book on child-rearing is "The Little Book of Christian Character & Manners" by William Dedrick. Out of print right now but oh, so worth finding & buying! EXCELLENT! It is another one that Eric and I are endeavoring to read once a year. Our Pastor is seeking to get it re-printed.

  5. Assuming Amanda will be done with it, of course you may borrow it! [smile] I'll try and remind you about bringing Meek & Quiet in April.

I'll see about finding the book you recommended 🙂
