Book Review: Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis
Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Kindle book.
I am not generally an SF reader, but I have determined to read Lewis and about Lewis in 2014, got the his space trilogy for free on Kindle and hadn’t read them.
I’m glad I read it. Lewis wrote a compelling tale of man and men … what they ought to be and what many are. He gave us excitement in the plot via a gradual revelation of Malacandra, philosophical presentation in translation, and confusion in return.
This was kind of perfect SF for a non-SF person because it doesn’t go into all the technical details of the how, but uses Classical Astronomy to solve the wheres. It is future grounded in the past.
I’m looking forward to the next book in the series, I must learn that there is no “i” in Perelandra, though.
I love the idea of stars as angels Lewis uses in this series, and this book in particular. I can't wait to hear what you think of Perelandra. 🙂
