Book Review: Murder Must Advertise by Dorothy Sayers
Murder Must Advertise by Dorothy L. Sayers

I have been enjoying Lord Peter Wimsey books this year. This one was my least favorite so far. Not to say that I didn’t enjoy it, just that I’ve preferred the others.
I was disappointed that the murder was incidental to a greater story. I was disappointed by how the outcomes were determined and some plot threads seemed left untangled …
I did like the ideas Sayers developed about advertising and the commercial culture. The cycle of creating a perceived need to sell an item to create a need was prescient of her. Sayers’ wit as she dissected the police novel was rapier sharp. It was as true of that style novel as modern TV police-dramas.
I’m ready, though, to read more books with Harriet Vane. I think I like him better with her than without.
