31 Days to Surviving Sports Seasons Sanely: Who’s the Snack Mom?

Ugh. Snacks.  I’m so glad my kids seem to be mostly aging out of the practice.

You will likely be the snack mom once per season for each of your children’s teams.

First issue: remembering to purchase snacks – usually a drink item and a food item.

Second issue: remembering to take them to the game.

Third issue: healthy snacks children will actually eat.

Often, once I know how many children are on each team, I’ll buy snacks at the beginning of the season.  Then, on my calendar, I type SNACKS in all capital letters at the *beginning* of the calendar entry for the game and note it on my menu plan and grocery list for the week.

Getting snacks to the game generally involves putting the bag or soft sided cooler next to the door.  You can load things that need to be kept cold just before leaving.  My husband often reminds me, too, because they’re on the calendar. And I’ve forgotten them before.

She and her teammates need healthy snacks!

Finally, healthy snacks. I usually buy Healthy Kids Juice Pouches for the drink. I know this isn’t totally healthy, but better than some of the other choices. Some of my favorites snacks:

  • A clementine and cheese stick in a ziploc bag
  • A bag of pretzels
  • Applesauce squeezers and a cheese stick in a ziploc bag
  • Z-bars

For baseball or hot soccer days, a favorite treat is frozen fruit bars.  Our sports complex has a concession stand with a freezer and they will hold frozen treats if asked. A hard cooler with a bag of ice will handle them for an hour, too.
