I think I read this 20 years ago when I was in high school. I did not understand any of it then.
I borrowed it from my mom because she bought tickets for the two of us to go see a puppet show performance of The Little Prince and I wanted to remember the book.
I’m glad I read the book before I watched the play, because although the play was well done I think it misrepresented the book in some ways.
The book focuses on perceptions and ultimately how we love and are loved. I’ve read some reviews saying this is Christian allegory. I’ve read some calling it very gnostic. I think we do need to be careful to not lean too far toward the “the inside is what’s important” parts (and the play I saw did do that, IMO). And Christ died for a purpose other than “returning home” but there were definitely ideas I found helpful as I think about what it means to attend, what it means to learn and teach, what it means to love.
And, I liked the story. I enjoyed the writing. I loved the section with the fox. It was an easy read, but leaves the reader much to ponder.
