Book Review: The Abolition of Man by C.S.Lewis

The Abolition of ManThe Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Own.

I lost a longer, better written review.
Suffice it to say that I loved the book, it both encouraged and terrified me.  I had a hard time with parts of it, but am OK with that as I plan to re-read it regularly.

Lewis’ argument for studying the Nature of things in their complexity, their completeness for their own sakes rather than for “use” is compelling.  His argument for seeking the old paths and conforming our minds and souls to them is convincing.  His argument for educating the whole student in joy and love is cogent.

Glad to have finally finished it.  Wish I had followed some of the arguments a little better … but that is what re-reading it will do for me, right?

(Last fall I wrote a post on the first essay for Cindy’s book club here.)
